The collection contains the following papers:
(Coll 1) Grant to Cecil Beadon, Member of the Council of the Governor General of India, of a leave of absence on medical certificate for a period of six months. Included is a statement by H Baillie, Officiating Presidency Surgeon, concerning Mr Beadon's health, dated 20th April 1861.
(Coll 2) Correspondence regarding the great mortality which occurred on board the Emigrant ships Thomas Hamlin and Gosforth on the voyage to the British Guiana in the early part of the year 1860
(Coll 3) Special Narrative of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, No.4, dated 6th May 1861, soliciting that the despatch of certain stationery supplies indented for may be expedited
(Coll 4) Public letter from the Government of India, Home Department, No.38 of 1861, dated 11th June 1861, regarding the circulation of "mysterious letters" in Behar recorded in the Tabular Statement of routine cases for the month of August 1860
(Coll 5) Special Narrative of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, No.2 (Medical), dated 10th June 1861, reporting the engagement of a passage to England for three insane patients on board the ship John Temperly. The names of the patients were John Henrickson, William Morison, and Patrick Dunn. Statements of the cases of the patients are included in the collection.
