The collection contains the following papers:
- (Coll 1) Annual Report of the Geological Survey of India and of the Museum of Geology, Fourth Year, 1859-60 (Calcutta: 1860). Includes a copy of the Public letter received from India, No.5 of 1861, dated 9th January 1861.
- (Coll 2) Public letter from the Government of India, Home Department, No.6 of 1861, dated 14 January 1861, regarding the arrival at Calcutta on the 10th January 1861 of Samuel Laing, who took his seat as Fourth Ordinary Member of the Council of the Governor General of India on the same date
- (Coll 3) Public letter from the Government of India, Home Department, No.15A of 1861, dated 16th February 1861, stating that Major General Sir Robert Napier took his seat as an Ordinary Member of the Council of the Governor General of India on the 11th February 1861
- (Coll 4) Public letter from the Government of India, Home Department, No.16 of 1861, dated 18 February 1861, stating that the Viceroy and Governor General of India had returned to the Presidency and resumed his seat as President of the Council
