William McIvor, Superintendent,Government Chincona Plantations, complains to the Government of Madras that he has not been given sufficient authority over his subordinates to run the plantations effectively. The accounts of Lt Nichol, in charge of Neddiwattam plantation, are audited and found to be defective. McIvor dismisses Nichol from his post and orders him to leave his home on the plantation. Government of Madras upholds the action against Lt Nichol, but censures McIvor for the tone of his address.
