Letter from James Charles Edwards, Bushire to Lewis Pelly

Letter regarding Edwards having been officially gazetted as Acting Political Resident during Pelly's absence and therefore being awarded an advance in pay for the period; the Bombay Government concurring with the decisions Edwards has taken during this period; and Pelly's approval of the proposed remodelling of the establishment at Bushire.
The letter goes on to discuss the individuals that Edwards has sent to meet Pelly in Muskat [Muscat] and which items of Pelly's belongings they have with them; Aboo Esau [Abu Esau] who is in Koweit [Kuwait] and Edwards writing to him via Yusuf ben Bedr; difficulties in obtaining general information about Arabia; the increase of fever in Bushire; Sultan Moorad Mirza's nomination to the Goverment of Fars and Prince Assud Ookah Mirza's [Mirza Asadullah] nomination to the Government of Bushire; and regarding the valuation of Captain Jones House.
A postscript to the letter discusses Doctor Colvill's manner during Pelly's absence; the possibility of hiring Hajee Ahmed's son to work for Pelly and an account of the life of Khuluf ben Esau, also known as Abuu Esau.
