Letter from James Charles Edwards, Bushire to Lewis Pelly

Letter, dated 10 December 1865, regarding a gold watch for Ameer Fysul [Amir Faisal] which is to be sent via the Governor of Kateef [Qatif] and a letter written to the Ameer [Amir] regarding his deputy, Abdul Azeez [Abdul Aziz]'s proceedings at Soor [Sur].
The letter goes on to discuss the remodelling of the estasblishment and the various individuals currently assisting with the Residency work; the sale of the Hugh Lindsay at Bassidore and various attempts at fraud during the sale; an application from Hajee Ahmed's widow for pension and increases in Rates of Provision and Fodder at Bushire.
Further news includes new conventions for telegraph lines in Persia and Colonel Goldsmid and Captain Smith's travels from Bunder Abbass [Bandar Abbas] to Gwader [Gwadar] to survey a new telegraph line; a request from the Sheikh of Rasulkhymah [Ras al Khaima] for the hospital assistant to attend him; and trade increasing at Bushire, in particular Cotton which is being taken to Bombay.
Addition to the letter, dated 11 December 1865, regarding a demi-official letter from Mr Alison in Tehran, which arrived relating to some French Gentlemen who had arrived in Bushire and whom Edwards was obliged to invite to the Residency in order to acquire a house for them. A further letter of 13 December 1865 reports that the French Counts declined the house Edwards had acquired for them, and had accepted rooms in the Residency, a postscript to that letter reports that they had now taken a house more suited to their needs.
