- Title:
- Letter from James Morier, Tehran to William Bruce, Resident at Bushire
- Scope & Content:
-
The letter concerns the transfer of ordnance stores from India for the use of the Persian Government. It notes that the Resident should insure that the goods are fully paid for before they are transferred to the Persian authorities. The letter has five enclosures, which are listed below:
1. A copy of a letter from Sir Gore Ouseley to Francis Rawdon-Hastings, Governor General of India, dated 10 March 1814. The letter concerns goods and arms sent from India for the use of the Persian Government, and issues related to the potential cancellation (in the event a treaty is signed between Persia and Russia) of the British subsidy to Persia, which may affect the ease of obtaining payment for them from the Persian authorities.
2. A copy of a letter from Francis Warden, Chief Secretary to the Government, Bombay to James Morier, His Britannic Majesty's Secretary of Embassy to the Court of Persia. The letter requests that copies of correspondence between the Military Board and the Accountant General, respecting military stores consigned to Bushire on the account of the British Mission, be presented to Sir Gore Ouseley.
3. A copy of a letter from John Kaye, Accountant General, Bombay to Francis Warden, Chief Secretary to the Government, Bombay, dated 4 February 1814. The letter requests that a packet containing 'several documents' (including enclosures 4 and 5 of this letter) is forwarded on to the Resident at Bushire.
4. A copy of a letter from William Newnham, Secretary to the Military Board, Bombay to John Kaye, Accountant General, Bombay, dated 3 February 1814. The letter concerns military stores consigned to Bushire on the account of the British Mission to the Court of Persia and explains why invoices have not been sent with each ship conveying said stores from India.
5. A copy of a letter from Stephen Babington, Secretary to the Government, Bombay to John Kaye, Accountant General, Bombay, dated 10 February 1814. The letter concerns freight charges for military stores shipped to Bushire via the Marquis Wellesley and Dadeloy to Bushire on the account of the British Mission to the Court of Persia.
