- Title:
- Letter from Francis Warden, Chief Secretary to the Government, Political Department, Bombay to Lieutenant William Bruce, Resident at Bushire
- Scope & Content:
-
The letter is enclosing translations of two communications from Nawab Ubas Koolee Khan [Nawāb ‘Abbās Qulī Khān] son of the late Nawab Ubas Mooneerood Dowla Ruza Koolee Khan Nadir Sung of Uzeemabad, concerning property plundered by the Juwasmees [Qawāsim] pirates. Two enclosures:
1. Translation of a letter from Nawab Ubas Koolee Khan to Sir Evan Nepean, Baronet, Governor of Bombay, dated 3 April 1815. The letter describes how a Bugla [buggalow] the author was on board, which was also carrying horses belonging to William Bruce, was attacked and captured by Juwasimees pirates. It describes how he was captured and taken, along with his women and children, to Russoolkhyma [Ra's al-Khaymah], and describes the conditions of their imprisonment. It also describes the threats that were made on the author's life, in spite of the letter of protection he carried as a British subject. It is mentioned that they were eventually released, in an inadequately sized boat sent to Sohar [Ṣuḥār], and the assistance of the British is requested in recovering the author's lost property.
2. Translation of a letter from Nawab Ubas Koolee Khan to Sir Evan Nepean, Baronet, Governor of Bombay, dated 3 April 1815. The letter consists of itemized lists of the property taken from the author by the pirates, along with that of his fellow traveller Aga Aboo Talib [Āghā Abū Ṭālib].
