Letter regarding the news of the loss of the Berenice and Pelly's lucky escape.
The letter goes on to discuss the Hissam-a-Sultaneh's decision to establish a Persian fort at Lingah [Bandar-e-Lengeh] in order to try and prevent smuggling from there to and from Shiraz.
The letter also discusses problems with the transport of telegraph stores and the difficulties being caused by the Persians in this matter; warning Pelly to beware of a 'Chevalier Hollandaise' a Dutch knight named Lycklamar and regarding his recent health.
