The collection contains the following papers:
- Correspondence regarding the circumstances under which the water marked paper referred to in Despatch No.22, dated 22nd October 1858, imported from Boulogne for transmission to Messrs. Graff and Branziger at Calcutta, was sent out under contract by that firm for the use of the Bengal Government, December 1858 to January 1859.
- Public letter from the Government of India, Home Department, No.16A of 1859, dated 24 January 1859, reporting that the Viceroy had returned to the Presidency and resumed his seat as President of the Council.
- Papers on the subject of a vacancy caused in the Legislative Council by the departure of Sir Arthur Buller from India, and the appointment of Sir Charles Jackson as a Member of that Council, January to February 1859.
- Correspondence on the Peninsular and Oriental Company's Steam ship Hindoostan having been chartered by the Government of India for the trip to Suez and back, in order to provide additional means of passage to England for the Military Officers of Government who may desire to avail themselves of furlough, March 1859.
- Reports on vaccination in the Straits Settlements, July 1858 to March 1859.
- Government of India, Home Department, Resolution relating to a modification of the system observed in transacting public business in the Secretariat Offices of the Government of India, dated 11th March 1859.
- Papers regarding the allotment of newly appointed Civil Servants to the two Divisions of the Bengal Presidency, September 1858 to April 1859.
- Copy of orders to the Agent of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company at the Port of Calcutta regarding the intended despatch of the Steamer Hindoostan to Suez on the 30th April 1859.
- Special Narrative of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, No.10, dated 29th April 1859, regarding photographs taken by Captain Dixon, Executive Engineer, of certain temples in the District of Pooree [Puri], March to May 1859.
- Address of congratulations on Her Majesty's Birthday presented by the Bishop and Clergy of Calcutta to the Governor General in Council at a Levee held by His Excellency in celebration of that day, with related correspondence, May 1859.
- Appointment of Henry Byng Harington of the Bengal Civil Service as a temporary Ordinary Member of the Council of the Governor General of India, 17th June 1859.
- Papers regarding the advances made on account of the estate of the late Dyce Sombre, and a discrepancy of 2,511 rupees, February to June 1859.
- Correspondence showing that the Madras Government did not consider it necessary to adopt the rules sanctioned by the Government of India for the guidance of persons concerned in the emigration of Native labourers from Calcutta to the West Indies, but that the Bombay Government were willing to do so with some modifications, April to August 1859.
- Correspondence regarding the deputation of an officer to collect Cinchona plants in South America for introduction into India, June to September 1859.
- Letter from Rajah Rada Kant Deb Bahadur regarding the Gold Medal awarded to him by Her Majesty the Queen, 3rd October 1859.
- Correspondence regarding the circumstances under which the delay occurred in the payment of the savings of the labourers who returned from Trinidad by the ship Morayshire, October 1859.
- Papers regarding the collections and disbursements made by the servants of Government in the year 1857, of sums for the honour or support of religion, or of the religious institutions of the Native inhabitants of India, November 1856 to September 1859.
- Correspondence regarding a communication from the Government of Bombay reporting that the "feelings of distrust alluded to in the Report of the Emigration Agent for the month of October 1857" had disappeared, May to November 1859.
- Public letter from the Government of India, Home Department, No.136 of 1859, dated 30th November 1859, reporting that Mr Ricketts had returned to the Presidency on the 28th November 1859.
- Public letter from the Government of India, Home Department, No.137 of 1859, dated 30th November 1859, reporting that James Wilson took his seat as the Fourth Ordinary Member of the Council of the Governor General of India on the 29th November 1859.
- Correspondence on the subject of the examination of provisions on board emigrant ships, October to December 1859.
- Public letter from the Government of India, Home Department, No.147 of 1859, dated 21st December 1859, reporting that Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere took his seat as an Ordinary Member of the Council of the Governor General of India on the 21st December 1859, and that H B Harington had retired from his seat in the Council.
