- Title:
- Theological. Aijal [1927]
- Scope & Content:
-
This pictures likely depicts the theological school founded in Aijal in 1907 by the pioneer missionary Rev. D. E. Jones (whom the Lushai fondly called Zosaphluia). The school was founded within eights years of the first baptisms of Lushai Christians, and was guided early on by pioneer Mizo pastors like Rev. Liangkhaia. The Aizawl Theological College (or ATC) is still in operation today though its record of service has not been continuous. It was also shifted in 1924 from Aizawl proper to its present location on the city's outskirts, in Durtlang locality. The building style in this photograph follows the ubiquitous trope used throughout Mizoram for colonial-era bungalows, post-offices, and certain chiefs' houses.
One photograph, measuring 160mm by 105mm.
