- Scope & Content:
- The letter is seeking guidance on the rights of British subjects engaged in internal Persian trade, and their right of exemption to duty payments. It explains that the extension of the trading operations of Messrs Lynch & Company and Messrs Hector & Company of Baghdad has convinced the Resident of the need for an authoritative decision on the subject; two examples of recent trades involving Mr Malcolm are used to highlight the need for guidance, and it also outlines the Resident's understanding of the extent current exemptions apply to British subjects.
