The letter is reporting the arrival of the Steam Frigate Assaye at Bushire, and forwarding a cloth packet (not present) delivered by that vessel.
Enclosed with the letter is a communication from Syed Saeed [Sa‘īd bin Sultān Āl Sa‘īd], the Imam of Muscat to Captain Jones dated 18 August 1856. The enclosure concerns presents sent by the Imam to the late Syed Moostaffa, and is a reply to questions from the Resident investigating the truth of a statement made by Hajee Abdul Mahamed, Malik ool Tajjar; the Imam states that it is his desire for the gifts to be presented to the son of the deceased.
