Letter no.604 of 1856 from Henry Anderson, Secretary to the Government of Bombay, to Commander Felix Jones, Acting Resident in the Persian Gulf
- Scope & Content:
-
The letter is a covering letter, relating to the means available to British officials for the suppression of the slave trade between East Africa and the Gulf. Enclosed with the letter are extracts of paragraphs 10 and 11 from despatch no.30 of 1855, from the Court of Directors, dated 19 December 1855. Paragraph 10 notes with pleasure the success of the suppression of the slave trade on the Persian coast. Paragraph 11 notes the lack of success in suppressing the slave trade on the Arab coast, and states the desirability for new treaties that would allow British officials to seize slaves after they had been landed, and charge the importers of slaves.
