Covering letter for correspondence between Stannus and Mohumed Zekee Khan [Zakī Khān], Prime Minister of Fars relating to the intention of the Imam of Muscat [Sa‘īd bin Sultān Āl Sa‘īd] to commence hostilities at Bushire.
The letter is accompanied by the following enclosures:
- letter from Stannus to Zekee Khan, dated 26 June 1826, certified as a true copy by Stannus, informing him of the diplomatic steps he had taken to dissuade the Imam of Muscat from aggression over Bushire and emphasising the neutrality of the British Government in the dispute;
- translation of a letter from Zekee Khan to Stannus, undated, received 11 July 1826, certified as a true translation by Samuel Hennell, Assistant to the Resident, stating that he was looking forward to the Imam of Muscat receiving his just desserts if he attacked Bushire;
- translation of a letter from the Imam of Muscat to Stannus, dated 23 June 1826, certified as a true translation by Samuel Hennell, Assistant to the Resident, stating that he would only drop his hostile intentions toward Bushire if Abdool Russool [‘Abd al-Rasūl] was excluded from the sheikh-ship and government of the place.
