- Scope & Content:
- The letter is informing the Resident that the Persian Government has appointed Mirza Mahmood Khan — son-in-law of the Minister of Foreign Affairs — to oversee the detention of Persian slaving vessels from a British cruizer; the British have been authorised to detain Persian ships suspected of carrying slaves, and to remove any slaves found aboard. It cautions that he should at no point be allowed to believe that he is equal in status to the commander of the vessel, and outlines the extent to which he is able to punish caught slave traders.
