Letter No. 8 of 1852 from Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Resident in the Persian Gulf, at Bushire to Arthur Malet, Chief Secretary to the Government, Secret Department, Bombay
- Scope & Content:
-
The letter is enclosing translations of communications received from parties subscribing to the continuation of the terms of the Maritime Truce 1843, and states that they give a general indication of the attitudes of the 'Arabian chiefs' towards the renewal of the treaty, or its replacement. It also encloses a copy of proposed terms for the treaty's renewal for the consideration of Government.
It discusses the scruples some chiefs and tribes may have over the terms of a renewed or new treaty, but explains that the Resident believes they will ultimately be swayed by the benefits they have enjoyed from the existing treaty.
