- Scope & Content:
- In this letter Commodore George Robinson, Commander of the Persian Gulf Squadron, forwards a copy of a letter, dated 23 June 1853, which he has received from Lieutenant Charles Golding Constable, Commander of the HC brig Euphrates. The attached letter gives details of Constable's recent visit to Lingah [Bandar-e Lengeh] where yesterday he accompanied Assistant Surgeon James McAlister's inspection of a number of slaves, who were then taken on board the Euphrates. Constable states that he has been informed that two of the slaves have since died. He informs Robinson that he sails to Bassadore [Bāsa‘īdū, Qeshm Island] today with the thirty-four remaining slaves, where he will land some of the female slaves, as directed, before proceeding on his voyage. In addition, Constable states that Lieutenant James Tronson, Commander of the HC brigantine Tigris, is sick with fever. He attaches a copy of a medical committee's report (not included) and a copy of orders issued by him (also not included).
