The letter is a covering letter, with enclosures relating to the opium trade between the Persian Gulf and Kurrachee [Karāchi]. The enclosures are as follows:
- Letter no.427 of 1852 (folio 24) from the Commissioner in Sind to the Right Honourable Lord Viscount Falkland, Governor and President in Council in Bombay, dated 3 November 1852. The letter itself encloses an extract of paragraph 4 (folio 25v) of the Digest of Intelligence of the Deputy Collector of Customs for the week ending 6 November 1852, and concerns trading vessels of Arab and Persian origin in Karāchi;
- Letter no.2862 of 1852 (folio 25) from the Commission in Sind to the Collector of Customs at Karāchi, dated 11 November 1852, requesting advice on action to be taken in regard to Arab Persian trading vessels at Karāchi;
- Letter no.397 of 1852 (folios 26-27) from the Assistant Commissioner to the Commissioner in Sind, dated 15 November 1852, recommending a proper enforcement of the existing regulations in relation the Arab ports of the Gulf and Zanzibar;
- Letter no.1128 of 1852 (folios 28-29) from Richard Spooner, Acting Collector of Customs, Bombay Customs House, dated 31 December 1852, which notes the absence of officials papers held by vessels coming from the Arabian and Persian Gulf, cites Article V of the General Maritime Arab (1820) which states that papers should be carried, and recommends enforcement of the treaty article in the Honourable Company’s dominions.
