The collections to the Straits Settlements Public Narrative, for the 2nd half of 1857, dated 1st November 1858, consists of the following small collections of papers (Coll 1-37), each of which has an extract from the Narrative:
- Coll 1, Correspondence regarding discrepancies appearing in the annual return of convicts of the Penang Settlement, July 1857 to November 1858.
- Coll 2, Indemnification claimed by Mr Brown, Proprietor of the Sugar Estate at Penang, for the destruction of sugar cane by fire, July 1857 to November 1858.
- Coll 3, Request by Revd A W Wallis that the Masters of the Free School at Penang may be allowed to participate in the privileges of the Pension Rules of 1831, July 1853 to November 1858.
- Coll 4, Correspondence regarding advances of pay to chaplains proceedings on medical certificate, August 1857 to November 1858. The correspondence is concerned with the case of the Reverend A W Wallis, Chaplain of Penang, who on account of ill health applied on medical certificate to go to Australia for one year.
- Coll 5, Application of Mr White, a resident at Penang, for several acres of land from Government, November 1856 to November 1858.
- Coll 6, Correspondence regarding the alarm felt among the European community at Penang during the Mohurrum [Muharram] festival, August 1857 to November 1858.
- Coll 7, Correspondence regarding the general feeling of alarm among the European inhabitants when Kurruck Singh (a State prisoner) was removed to Penang, August 1857 to November 1858.
