Correspondence forwarded to the Court of Directors by the Government of Bengal, regarding measures to improve vaccination uptake throughout the Lower Provinces. Discusses the opinion of the Bengal Medical Board that legislation prohibiting inoculation [variolation] should not be enacted until an improved vaccine establishment is in place; and the opinion of the Smallpox Committee that legislation must be enacted before any improvement could be seen. Encloses correspondence received from Magistrates throughout Bengal, and from the Superintendent of Police, giving their opinions.
