The collection consists of the following smaller collections of papers:
- Coll 1, Papers regarding the departure of the Governor General of India to the North Western Provinces, and the arrangements consequent thereon, January 1858. Includes a copy of Act No.IV of 1858, An Act for providing for the exercise of certain powers by the Governor General during his absence from the Council of India.
- Coll 2, Minutes on the subject of the proposed prolongation of the Governor General's absence from the Presidency, July 1858. Includes a Resolution by the Government of India, dated 19th July 1858, regarding extending the operation of Act No.IV of 1858 for a further period of six months.
- Coll 3, Papers regarding Act No.XXVII of 1858, An Act to continue in force for a further period of six months Act IV of 1858, for providing for the exercise of certain powers by the Governor General during his absence from the Council of India.
- Coll 4, Annual report by the Board of Examiners on the character and attainments of the junior civil servants qualified for the public service in the year 1857.
- Coll 5, Copy of a proclamation, dated 9th February 1858, issued by the Governor General of India, on the assumption by him of the Government of the North Western Provinces.
- Coll 6, Resolution, dated 9th February 1858, on the subject of the re-organisation of the Government of the North Western Provinces.
- Coll 7, Correspondence regarding the Burmese Ornamental Building which had been removed from Prome and erected in the Auckland Gardens at Calcutta, June 1857 to February 1858.

- Coll 18, Further correspondence with the Government of Bombay and the Superintendent of the Geological Survey, regarding coal in Sind, and the arrangements made by the Local Government with the Chairman of the Scinde Railway Company, for testing the nature and extent of the Sind coal formations, May 1858 to January 1859.
- Coll 19, Special Narrative of the proceedings of the Government of Bengal, General Department, No.11, dated 5th July 1858, reporting the circumstances which led to an error in the stationery indent for the year 1859.
- Coll 20, Reports by Dr Herbert Giraud, Professor of Chemistry, Grant Medical College, on the mineral waters in the Bombay Presidency, October 1854 to July 1858.
- Coll 21, Request by the Court of Directors of the East India Company for a selection of the antiquities discovered in the ruins at Sarnath to be sent to the India Museum in London, March to July 1858. Includes a list of articles dug up at Sarnath, the ancient Buddhist holy ground near Benares, under the Superintendence of Professor F E Hall, and left by him, on his departure for Ajmere in June 1855, under the Charge of F B Gubbins, Commissioner of the Benares Division.

- Coll 24, Letter from Sir James Outram to the Court of Directors of the East India Company, dated 22nd September 1858, returning thanks for the annuity voted to him.
- Coll 25, Copy of The Calcutta Gazette Extraordinary of the 1st November 1858, together with a copy of other papers regarding the reading of the Proclamation of the Queen in Council to the Princes, Chiefs, and people of India, September 1858 to June 1859. Includes a copy of The Calcutta Gazette for Saturday, June 4, 1859.
- Coll 26, Covering letter from the Government of Bombay, fowarding a congratulatory address to Her Majesty the Queen from His Highness the Nawab Nazim of Bengal, on the assumption by Her Majesty of the Government of the British Territories in India, November 1858 [the address was presented to the Queen and is not present in the file].
- Coll 27, Further papers relating to the proposal for reorganising the Civil and Military Examination Committee at Bombay, October 1857 to December 1858.
- Coll 28, Letter from the Government of India, Home Department, to the Secretary of State for India, No.25, dated 13th December 1858, regarding Dr Honigberger's alleged specific for the cure of cholera, stating that he having left India, no further report on his curative process could be made.
- Coll 29, Covering letter from the Government of India, Home Department, to the Secretary of State for India, No.26, dated 13th December 1858, forwarding 20 copies of a Minute by the Lieutenant Governor of Bengal 'On the Mutinies, as they affected the Lower Provinces of the Bengal Presidency' [Minute not present in the file].
