pp 5-25. Despatch from the Secretary of State stating that, pending the final decision regarding the local manufacture of quinine from the Madras and Sikkim barks in lieu of home manufacture, he has determined to revert to the former system of sale by auction of the barks consigned to the India Office.
Also proposes to send to India the large stock of alkaloids at present on hand, and therefore requests to be informed when and in what quantities they shall be consigned.
Forwards a memorandum on cinchona and quinine production by F C Danvers, dated June 1883; plus a tabulated 'Statement of the Quantity of Bark received from Madras in the years 1871 to July 1883 inclusive, and particulars as to its Sale, Manufacture, and the Disposal of the Product'.
