pp 153-156. Communication from the Government of Bombay forwarding a letter by Miss E Pechey, MD, employed by the Medical Women Fund Society of Bombay and in charge of the Jaffer Suleman Charitable Dispensary for Women and Children. Pechey advocates:
(1) The creation of a branch of the Indian Medical Department for women;
(2) That the department should supply competent medical and surgical staff wherever private enterprise and liberality provide a suitable hospital and surgey for women;
(3) That salaries and pensions connected with these appointments should be of parity with male appointments;
(4) That the Government would seek to eventually fill the positions with suitably qualified native women.
Orders thereon from the Government of India, commenting that grants-in-aid could be provided to institutions founded by private charity with the aim of meeting the medical needs of Indian women.
