No. 32. Communication from the Government of India to the Government of Bengal regarding the report of the Smallpox Committee, which recommended legislating against the practice of inoculation. Government of India identified the poor extent of vaccination throughout Bengal, and advise that vaccination must be in place as a substitute for inoculation before any legislation can be passed. Requests opinion of medical and civil officers throughout Bengal on the best ways to improve the system of vaccination.
No. 33. Copy report of the Smallpox Committee, regarding vaccination operations in Bengal, Madras, Bombay, the North-Western Provinces and the Upper Provinces. Provides for each: an historical overview of vaccination operations; extracts from reports of smallpox vaccination; details of the extent of smallpox; details of the extent of inoculation; information on the attitudes of native Indians to inoculation and vaccination; particulars of the vaccine establishment, including numbers vaccinated, cost of the establishment, and the status of inoculation.
