The collection consists of the following small collections of papers, each of which has a cover sheet, a table of contents, and an extract from the Narrative, dated 27th April 1858:
- Coll 1, Removal of the more valuable records from the office of the Commissioner of Benares to the Fort at Chunar for safe custody, September 1857 to April 1858.
- Coll 2, Permission granted to H G Ross, an unpassed civil servant, to prosecute his studies at Azamgarh, October 1857 to April 1858.
- Coll 3, Correspondence regarding a personal difference between two Government officers, Major Sleeman, Superintendent for the Suppression of Dacoity and Thagi, and Major W C Erskine, Commissioner of the Saugor Division, regarding an accusation made by Sleeman of Erskine's inaccessibility and want of urbanity towards native officers, August 1857 to April 1858.
