Scope & Content:

Coll 1, Narrative of events submitted by the Government of the North Western Provinces for the weeks ending 16th and 23rd May 1858, together with the following papers:

  • Letter from the Collector and Magistrate of Banda, dated 13th May 1858, furnishing intelligence of affairs in that neighbourhood.
  • Narrative of events connected with the Banda District, dated 21st May 1858.
  • Narrative of the Collector and Magistrate of Bijnor, dated 16th May 1858.
  • Letter from the Collector and Magistrate of Bijnor, dated 30th April 1858, furnishing a concise statement of events since leaving Roorkee on the 15th April 1858 with Brigadier General Jones' Force.
  • Narrative of the Commissioner of Rohilkhand up to 22nd May 1858.
  • Deposition of Thakur Deen, an inhabitant of Pargana Ghatampur, relating to circumstances connected with the murder of Messrs Lloyd and Grant, and of Lieutenant Raikes and Ensign Browne, taken on the 23rd May 1858.
  • Narrative of events by the Commissioners of Gorakhpur for the week ending the 22nd May 1858.
  • Letter from the Superintendent of Jhansi, dated 28th May 1858, reporting the capture of Calpee, the want of covenanted assistants for Jhansi, and the absolute necessity for Police Battalions.
  • Letter from the Assistant Magistrate of Fatehpur, dated 28th May 1858, reporting the withdrawal of Major Middleton from Hamirpur.
  • Letter from the Magistrate of Banda, dated 20th May 1858, furnishing items of intelligence and reporting that Narain Rao showed no inclination to surrender.
  • Extract from a narrative of events in the Agra Division during the week ending 29th May 1858.
  • Daily narrative of important events connected with the Banda District, dated 1st June 1858.
