- pp 423-27. Report by J L Bryden, Statistical Officer in charge of the current duties of the Office of the Sanitary Commissioner with the Government of India, reporting on the appearance of epidemic cholera in October on the Eastern coast of Africa, and an outbreak in November at Zanzibar. Bryden comments on previous cholera outbreaks in India, Persia and Russia, concluding that "the epidemic now in progress has still before it a vital existence of at least two years, since it was in April 1868 that its movement from out of the endemic area occured."
