The collection consists of the following small collections of papers, each of which has a title page, a table of contents, and an extract from the Education Narrative, No.27, dated 3rd December 1857:
- Coll 1 (Vol 1), Papers regarding the redistribution of grants to certain schools, October 1856 to December 1857.
- Coll 1 (Vol 2), Correspondence regarding a donation of 300 rupees granted to the Anglo Vernacular School at Tumlook for the purchase of furniture, books, maps, etc., March to December 1857.
- Coll 2, Papers regarding improvements to the midwifery wards of the Medical College Hospital, June 1856 to December 1857. Includes a report on the midwifery wards of the Medical College Hospital by Professor T W Wilson, Officiating Principal of the Medical College.
- Coll 3, Correspondence regarding the establishment of a school in Zillah Midnapore for the education of Sonthal children, March to December 1857.
- Coll 4, Correspondence regarding the grant of a donation of 1,000 rupees to Mrs L M A Lewis to enable her to defray the expenses of her passage to Europe, June to December 1857.
- Coll 5, Correspondence regarding the continuance of the donation for another year to the weekly Journal in Bengali, called the 'Education Gazette', published in connection with the Education Department, March to December 1857.
- Coll 6, Correspondence regarding the advisability of removing the Education Department of Arracan [Arakan] from the Director of Public Instruction to the supervision of the Commissioner of that Province, October 1856 to December 1857.
- Coll 7, Sanction of the Government of India to the continuance of the experiment made for the extension of education amoung the Garrows in the Gowalparah [Goalpara] District, May to December 1857.
- Coll 8, Correspondence regarding the redistribution of salaries in the office Establishment of the Director of Public Instruction and in that of the Inspector of Schools in South Bengal, July to December 1857.
- Coll 9, Appointment of W Crozier, Officiating Professor of Anatomy in the Medical College, to be Professor of Anatomy, Physiology, Comparative Anatomy and Zoology in the Medical College, 28th July 1857.
- Coll 10, Correspondence regarding the renewal permanently of a grant in aid to the vernacular school at Sursa (or Shurshaw) in the Thana of Pundooah, Zillah Hooghly, July to December 1857.
- Coll 11, Correspondence regarding the redistribution of the salaries allowed for the vernacular school masters in Kamroop, disallowed by the Supreme Government, May to December 1857.
- Coll 12, Correspondence regarding the revision of the allowance for office and servants, and for contingencies, at the Presidency College and the new schools connected with it, June to December 1857.
- Coll 13, Correspondence regarding the salary of H Woodrow, Inspector of Schools in East Bengal, being raised to 1,200 rupees a month on his passing the examination in Bengali, August to December 1857.

- Coll 15, Correspondence regarding the revision of the salaries of the Establishment of the Dacca College, July to December 1857.

- Coll 24, Acknowledgement of Government conveyed to Baboo Samakisto Mullick for his liberality in providing accommodation in Chitpur Road, Calcutta, for 3 months for the Hindu School, September to December 1857.
- Coll 25, Scholarships awarded in the Government colleges and schools during the year 1857/58. Includes a list of students who had gained and retained senior and junior English and Oriental scholarships at the examination of April 1857.
- Coll 26, Correspondence regarding free school scholarships for Anglo Vernacular schools, August to December 1857.
- Coll 27, Disbursements sanctioned during the third quarter of 1857.
