pp 161-210. Government of Bengal forward reports and correspondence on the working of the Contagious Diseases Act in Calcutta for the years 1868-1870, comprising:
- Resolution of the Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal on the report of the Superintendent, Lock-Hospitals, on the working of the Act in the town of Calcutta during the year 1870.
- Copy report by the Commander of Police for the Town and Suburbs of Calcutta on the working of the Act during the year 1870, plus Appendix A. Circular order to police officers; and Appendix B. Statements of women and others on various matters connected with the working of Act XIV, plus comments thereon by the Commissioner of Police; Appendix C. Statement of arrests and prosecutions under the Act in Calcutta during 1870.
- Report by Surgeon-Major A Payne, Superintendent of Lock-Hospitals, on the working of the Act in Calcutta in 1870, including tabulated statistics for registered, unregistered, examined and unexamined prostitutes; arrest rates; occurances of sexually transmitted diseases amongst prostitutes, European and Native troops, and reported in Civil medical institutions.
- Remarks of the Inspector General of Hospitals, Indian Medical Department, on the reports of the Commissioner of Police, Superintendent of Lock-Hospitals, and the Deputy-Inspector of Lock-Hospitals.
- Copy Report on the working of Lock-Hospitals in Calcutta and Suburbs, by G Saunders, Deputy Inspector of Lock-Hospitals, Presidency Circle.
- Further report by Surgeon-Major A Payne, Superintendent of Lock-Hospitals, Calcutta, on the working of the Lock Hospitals in Calcutta, plus annual returns.
- Abstract of opinions received from various practitioners, &c., in Calcutta, as to results of the working of the Act XIV of 1868.
- Return showing the number of cases of venereal disease treated in the Presidency General Hospital from 1865-1870.
Plus comments thereon by the Government of India. Reports are awaited from Madras and Bombay.
