pp 245-96. Communication from the Government of Bombay to the Government of India, 03 Dec 1873, forwarding:
- Report of T B Johnstone, Deputy Inspector General of Hospitals, 16 Aug 1872, providing a short description of the accomodation on the island, with a sketch map of the positions of the various buildings [p269], plus draft establishment lists.
- Report of the Committe investigating the requirements for converting Butcher's Island and the buildings on it into a sanatorium, inlcuding a detailed financial estimate, 05 Sep 1873.
- Estimate framed by Captain G Merewether, Executive Engineer, Bombay Defences, of the probable cost of making certain additions, alterations, and repairs to the buildings, &c., at Butcher's Island, to make them suitable for segregating persons suffering from infectious diseases, Jun 1873.
Correspondence thereon between the Military Department, Bombay, and the Military Department, Government of India. Government of India are unwilling to admit the necessity for a harbour sanatorium in Bombay, and enquire whether the Government of Bombay are willing to proceed with the scheme for the benefit of shipping.
