Ge-kö (Dge-bskos) of the Bor che chi Sum Monastery near Ha-ting Sum, in his yurt. Photographer: Bell, Charles Alfred
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Portrait Photography
Full-length seated portrait. Bell's caption note continues: 'In front of him is the bowl from which he makes offerings to the deities, grains of rice or of barley, but not of wheat; thus Mongols follow the Tibetan custom. Below, a shallow dish of wheaten cakes baked with oil; behind him, two sacred pictures. He eats the wheaten cakes, but the grains in the bowl in front of him, and the water in the small vessel right of him, are thrown up with the fingers as offerings to the deities. At his back can be seen the white felt of the yurt wall; above him, the yurt roof darkened with smoke from the fire that is continually burnt inside the yurt.' Duplicate negative only, no print.
