De Wang. Young race rider who has won the first prize is brought before De Wang by the owner of the pony (right), who declares publicly on the merits of the pony. Nothing is said about the young rider. The first seven or eight are brought thus before De Wang, and a prize awarded to each owner by the hoshun (tribe). The owner of the first pony received a pony as prize, the third received a sheep, and the fifth, sixth, etc, packets of tea. The owners give little rewards to the young riders; to the first perhaps a sheep, to the others a little money, a dollar, half a dollar, and so on. Photographer: Bell, Charles Alfred
