Inscribed N.11 in pencil on lower right corner of mount. The pencilled number identifies this print as one of a series of views with letterpress published by Henry Hinton and entitled The ruins of Beejapoor, in a series of nineteen views from collodion negatives (Printed by Thomas Graham: Bombay, 1860). No. 11 in the series bears the title, Annund Mehal. A copy of Hinton's letterpress catalogue can be found at Photo 6(19). The accompanying letterpress reads: 'This palace is in a good state of repair. It was built by one of the early kings of Beejapoor, and was the permanent residence of the Sultanas and ladies. A hundred and fifty yards from it, to the south, rear of the palace, is a small , but very handsome Mosque, built of a close-grained stone, after a model of the one at Mecca, whence its name the Mecca Musjid. It is surrounded by a high wall, and the road to it from the palace was through a walled-in passage; the remains of which may still be seen. The Mosque was expressly built for the inmates of Annund Mehal. Owing to the high wall, and limited space in front of this small but elegant specimen of Moslem architecture, a photograph was quite impracticable with the appliances then at command. It is the only edifice within the city in almost perfect order.'
