The collections to the Straits Settlements Public Narrative, for the 1st half of 1857, consists of the following small collections of papers, each of which has an extract from the Narrative:
- Coll 1, Correspondence regarding the purchase by the Local Government of ground for artillery and infantry target practice, January 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 2, Annual report of the Municipal Committee of Prince of Wales Island for the year 1856.
- Coll 3, Correspondence regarding compensation for loss of land given to an individual by the Local Government, October 1856 to March 1858.
- Coll 4, Petition from the Continental convicts empoyed as government servants, for the allowance of rations, April 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 5, Correspondence regarding a candooree or Native feast given by the Local Government to the Malays of Province Wellesley as a recognition of the exhibition of loyalty by the Malay population who volunteered their services to government during the outbreak of disturbances amoungst the Chinese population, April 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 6, Enquiry into the cause of escape from the Jail at Penang of an unusual number of Chinese convicts, April 1857 to March 1858. Includes lists giving relevant information on the escaped convicts, such as their name, age, crime, where from, when sentenced, physical description, etc.
- Coll 7, Application on the part of Kam Kang Gay and Tan Ageen, spirit farmers at Penang, for further time to be allowed them to pay the rent, March 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 8, Appointment of Joaquim D'Almeida as Sheriff of the United Settlement of Prince of Wales Island, Singapore and Malacca for the remainder of 1857.
- Coll 9, Correspondence regarding the selection of a more suitable place of interment for deceased convicts at Singapore, April 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 10, Grant of certificates of naturalisation to five Chinese merchants named Heng Ong Soon, Choa Pueh Kuim, Low Ah Jit, Won Mo Choon and Chan Koo Chan, and to Leopold Cateaux, a partner in a French firm at Singapore, March 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 11, Nomination of three gentlemen named Captain Charles Alexander Purvis, George Windsor Earl and Lieutenant John Frederick Adolphus McNair to act as Justices of the Peace for the Settlements of Prince of Wales Island, Singapore and Malacca, March 1858.
- Coll 12, Correspondence regarding the licensing of pawnbrokers shops, May 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 13, Correspondence regarding separate cots for the European prisoners in the Jail and House of Correction at Singapore, May 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 14, Correspondence regarding the transfer to Government by the Municipal Committee of Singapore of the services of certain officers of Police, April 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 15, Correspondence regarding the site selected for the new Sheriff's jail at Singapore being pronounced unhealthy, June 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 16, Correspondence regarding the temporary abandonment of the Malacca Tin Mines, March 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 17, Correspondence regarding a claim by the Roman Catholic Mission at Malacca to a tract of land in the direction of the village of Rumbia, May 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 18, Correspondence regarding the levying of a tenth on timber felled at Malacca, May 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 19, Correspondence regarding the transmission to Malacca from Ceylon by an oversight of two Cingalese convicts whose sentences had already expired, June 1857 to March 1858.
- Coll 20, Statement of the number of Chinese immigrants into Malacca during the official year 1856/57.
