A similar view to print 36, looking along the length of the vaulted audience hall of the Nayaka Palace at Tanjore (Thanjavur) and showing sculptural detail and wall paintings. Lyon's 'Notes to accompany a series of photographs prepared to illustrate the ancient architecture of Southern India' (Marion and Co., London, 1870), edited by James Fergusson, gives the following description of this photograph: '405 [print 36] and 406 [print 37] - These two Photographs represent another Hall of Audience in another part of the palace. It is in the same mixed style of Saracenic and Hindu architecture as the palace at Madura, but infinitely less pure and elegant than that example. When, however, its frescoes were entire, and it was untouched by whitewash, it must have been a gorgeous, though somewhat barbaric specimen of Asiatic magnificence.'
