View from the east (ie, from the bank of the Hugli), looking towards the convent buildings, with the church (see Photo 247/3 (37)) beyond. For a similar view, taken in the early years of this century, see H. Hosten, 'A week at the Bandel convent, Hugli' ('Bengal past and present,' vol. 10, 1915, pp. 36-120). The main building in this view, on the right, is St Augustine's Hall (built 1820?), which contained a dining room and guests' rooms. When seen in 1996, this hall appeared to be in the process of demolition, or at the very least major refurbishment.
