Portrait group, probably photographed, or at least organised by Robert Gill, who sits on a cushion on the ground in the centre, in profile. The woman in white, seated on a chair over which a leopard skin is draped, is Mary Ann Nicholl (1850-1913). The young mman seated fifth from left behind the flower arrangement on the table, is Charles Atkinson (1837-1911), who served with the 89th and 34th Foot. (Identifications of Nicholl and Anderson supplied by Edward McKillop Nicholl, great grandson of Mary Ann Nicholl, 1999).
