Genre/Subject Matter:
This scene shows a stream or irrigation channel, a palm grove and several Arab men at Mohammerah (Khorramshahr), which is located at the mouth of the Karun River on the Shatt-el-Arab delta.
The stream extends from lower left to centre left of the image: it may be a man-made irrigation channel supplying water to the palm grove. A man on stands facing the camera, right of centre in the foreground, alongside the stream. He wears a keffiyeh and dark-coloured agal on his head, a pale-coloured robe and dark outer robe. His feet are bare. In his hands he holds what appears to be a string of prayer beads, a ring on the little finger of his left hand shines brightly.
In the background, behind and the left of the man, a group of other figures can be seen.
Damage, printing error or a light leak has caused a slight band, most discernible in the centre of the left of the image to appear under-exposed in the print.
