View of the arched interior of the mosque beneath the great central dome. Duplicate (later printing) of Photo 1000/31 (3188).
539. - As mentioned in the description No. 538 the mosque is divided into squares, each covered by its own small dome, but in the centre, nine of these compartments are occupied by the great dome 57 ft in diameter in the circular part, but standing on a square measuring 70 ft each way, its height from the floor to the apex being 120 ft. The size of this dome was greatly exceeded afterwards by that described under No. 542 though the outlines of this one are far more graceful.
