540. - On entering the mosque and advancing into the centre square described in 539 under the great dome immediately in front is the Mehrab or Altar. It is elegantly gilded and coloured. There are several inscriptions, among which are the following : 'I remember that this royal altar was ornamented by orders of Mohammed Adil Shah', 'Yakuti was the servant of the mosque and the slave of Mohammed Shah, whose shadow may God continue to support A H 1045 - AD 1635', 'Place not reliance on this life because it is not steadfast, and in this house of inquietude nothing is at rest for any one', 'Pleasant is the stage of the world now sparking in mine eye, and happy is the lot of my life, but it is fleeting.'
