Inscription: Titled and numbered in the negative.
Genre: Architectural Photography
General view of the ruined temple, standing on a raised platform whose plinth is supported by elephants carved in relief. Called the Siddheshvara Temple in Bloch's list. 'The temple of Siddhesvara is the principal and most interesting relic of antiquity at Mandhata. It stands upon the plateau, towards its eastern edge, upon a raised platform whose plinth is supported all round by elephants in various positions in relief, two of which have found their way to the museum at Nagpur where they guard the entrance to that building...Some of these pillars [of the shrine] have disappeared, and the whole roof with the sikara has gone...Temples of this plan are rare, i.e. where the shrine occupies the centre with four doors opening into it, one opposite each of the four cardinal points' (Henry Cousens, 'Progress Report of the Archaeological Survey of Western India, for the months May 1893 to April 1894', p. 3). Another copy of this print at Photo 1002 (1265).
