Close view of the rock-cut dome. This is a photo-mechanical print (apparently his collotype process introduced c. 1870) made by Johann Baptist Obernetter from Lyon's photograph. For an albumen print version of this image, see Photo 212/3 (11). Lyon, who had been commissioned to photograph archaeological and architectural sites by the Madras Government in 1867-68, attempted in the early 1870s to interest the India Office in using Obernetter's process to make reproductions of his work (see India Office Public Department Home Correspondence, IOR/L/PJ/2/50, item 7/325).
