Genre: Portrait Photography
Group portrait, a later copy of a photograph taken c. 1865. A typescript label on the reverse reads: 'George John Vandeleur Lee, the Dublin orchestral conductor of genius who taught Shaw's mother to sing, surrounded by (left to right), Mrs Lucinda Elizabeth Shaw, Charles Cummins, Maria Ryan, Miss Feemy and Shaw's father George Carr Shaw. Cummins was the leading tenor in Lee's Musical Society. The photograph was taken in Dalkey by Richard Pigott, editor of The Irishman and often imprisoned for sedition, but finally imfamous as the forger of the Parnell letters, on exposure of which he shot himself. This is a much better impression than any other existing one, and should be given a full page.' Another copy at print 7.
