Photographic copy of the self-portrait of the artist and his wife in the Pitti Palace. Print 42 is a different version: 'Doubt has been cast both upon the subject and authenticity of the alleged portrait by the painter. The face is quite different from that in the other 'portrait'.' It was this portrait that inspired Browning's poem.
