Full-length portrait of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, wearing a suit and seated in front of a plain backdrop. This prison identification photograph was taken in Bombay at the time of his trial for abetment to murder, sedition and 'conspiring to wage war on the king.' Savarkar was found guilty and sentenced to 50 years penal servitude in the Andaman Islands, although he was later freed after signing a renunciation of political violence.
