Gan Yokmaz Turkoman ploughing [near Gonbad-e Kavus]. Photographer: Watson, John Williams
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Ethnographical Photography
View of plough drawn by a horse and a camel yoked together. 'From the camp near Paras we rode, as on the two previous days, through belts of high reeds, passing Kala Gaour, a mound which marks an ancient site. At six miles beyond it, we were in Yamut country and, crossing the Kara Su shortly afterwards, we left the reed brakes behind and entered the steppe. The first sight which met us was that of an old Gan Yokmaz Turkoman ploughing with a camel and a mare and needless to say, Captain Watson speedily took a photograph of this curious team.' (Sykes p. 11).
