The sporting or social occasion at which this photograph was taken is not identified, allthough possibly a gold tournament. The hills in the background are probably the Nilgiris and the group may have been taken at Ootacamund, where the photographers Wiele & Klein maintained a studio in the 1890s and early 1900s, or possibly Wellington.
