- User Conditions:
- Physical Characteristics:
-
Materials: parchment and ink, with paper guards around all four edges of the parchment folios.
Dimensions: parchment only approximately 185 x 125 mm; text approximately 150 x 70 mm.
Script: Protogothic.
- Custodial History:
-
Origin: ? Christ Church, Canterbury, c 1100: script seems similar to those used in manuscripts associated with Christ Church (see Barlow, Life (1992), lxxix).
Provenance:
? The Benedictine abbey of Westminster: Westminster had a copy of the Vita Ædwardi by 1085, where it served as a source for the history of Westminster (Prologus de constructione Westmon) by Sulcard (fl. c 1080). However, it is not clear that this manuscript was the copy in question (see Barlow, Life (1992), xxxvi-xxxvii).
? early 16th century additions: inscribed 'For Dr Bancroft' (f. 57v), possibly to be identified with Richard Bancroft (bap. 1544, d. 1610), archbishop of Canterbury (see Barlow, Life (1992), lxxix).
