Wampee
Clausenia lansium (Lour.) Skeels; Rutaceae family
Original inscriptions: 黄皮 (front lower left in ink); 四月開 (reverse lower left in ink); Wong-Pei (reverse lower right in pencil)
Further inscriptions: H. Sh. (front lower left in ink)
Flowering branch of a wampee plant. One green and smooth branch dividing in four main twigs. The lower two twigs show opposite, pointy oblong dark green leaves with entire margins and opposite veins. Few leaves have deteriorated margins. The two upper twigs are densely adorned with flowers, and further branch out into smaller inflorescence twigs. The inflorescence has a panicle like structure, the flowers are small, with five stellate petals, and stamens erect, clearly visible protruding from the corolla. Many buds, globular and small. One small, light green gem sprouts from the middle of the main branch, before the inflorescence. Lower left: dissected view of ten stamens, pedicel with style, and five white elliptic petals. Lower right: depiction of a branch with four fruit attached, and one horizontally dissected. The fruit berries on the branch are round, coloured each brown, yellow, orange, and green (mature to immature). The dissected fruit has brown outer skin, white flesh, and three dissected seeds are visible laying in the middle of the fleshy endocarp. One seed is dissected on the right of the fruit, it is of oblong shape, brown smooth surface, and green underneath; it appears composed of two halves clearly demarcated with ridges.
Any further details: The same plant is depicted in a different format in NHD56/28.
