Original inscriptions: 地芥 (front lower right in ink); 地芥 Tei-Kai (reverse lower right in pencil)

Further inscriptions: W. Ch. (front lower left in ink)

Flowering branch of a white Boraginaceae family plant, possibly Heliotropium species.One erect, light green-yellowish twig, with alternate lanceolate leaves; leaf blade with alternate golden veins, and slightly undulate margins. Two extravagant, racemose inflorescences stem at the top of the branch, curling inward. Each inflorescence has tightly clustered small white, stellate flowers, laying on the upper surface of the curl, some in buds. Lower left: dissected view of the yellow flower corolla, with pedicel and bracts, one pubescent style, and five stamens with yellow filaments and dark red anthers.
